Marina Ibiza, a benchmark in the yachting industry, has this year underlined its commitment to the local community and the environment. As every year, it has been involved in a whole host of projects, ranging from support for local sports to marine research and environmental conservation, and firmly intends to continue with this approach in 2025.
In 2024, the marina has continued to support various local entities, including the sponsorship of three major sporting initiatives on the island.
In partnership with Club Deportivo UID Ibiza (football), Handbol Club Ibiza (handball), and Club Esportiu Can Cantó (basketball), Marina Ibiza has fervently supported the promotion of these three sports, encouraging the involvement of young people in Ibiza in sport and the growth of these disciplines, while also fostering a healthy lifestyle.
What’s more, Marina Ibiza has worked together with Club Náutico Ibiza by providing spaces and berths and by helping coordinate iconic regattas, such as the Finn Regatta and the Jornadas Náuticas Pitiusas, which encourage passion for the sea, the yachting culture, and sports in general.
Meanwhile, Marina Ibiza has also shown its community spirit by making three significant donations in favour of charitable causes. First of all, Marina Ibiza and Filin (one of the restaurants within the marina) held a brunch every Sunday in the season to raise funds for the charity Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer. Secondly, Calma (another restaurant within Marina Ibiza) donated some of its takings from set menus to Ibiza Preservation, an NGO engaged in the conservation of the island’s natural heritage. Last, but definitely not least, Marina Ibiza made a donation to ADDIF (Adapted Sports Association of Ibiza and Formentera) to support this charity’s project. In addition, following the natural catastrophe that devastated Valencia, Marina Ibiza helped the victims by collaborating with different types of aid.
In the environmental field, Marina Ibiza has been a promoter and sponsor of the Marine Forum since its creation. This forum is a space for exchange and education about the protection of the seas and biodiversity. At this forum, there have been talks by highly prestigious international speakers and thought-provoking activities on key issues, such as the protection of Posidonia (a seagrass vital for the health of marine ecosystems) and the census of marine flora and fauna in our waters.
New this year has been a collaboration between Marina Ibiza and TrueWorld, an organisation focused on scientific dissemination and committed to improving the environment through state-of-the-art scientific tools that ensure the veracity and quality of information. Various research projects and activities are being carried out with this organisation for the conservation of Ibiza’s seabed.
One of the most significant advances in this regard was the trial of the first electric boat fitted with special software, which sets out to harvest ultra-precise and fundamental data for the study and conservation of local marine ecosystems. Marina Ibiza, in addition to actively contributing to this study, welcomed this boat at its facilities to obtain quality documentation about its seabed to subsequently promote actions to enhance the quality of water, the habitat of countless species, and the native fauna and flora itself.
What’s more, Marina Ibiza has been partnering with the NGO Un Mar de Posibilidades, providing a berth over the winter for one of its ships.
As for its efforts to safeguard water quality and the marine environment, Marina Ibiza was awarded the Blue Flag for the thirteenth year running, an accolade that endorses the environmental excellence of the marina and its compliance with sustainability standards.
Finally, in the field of underwater archaeology, Marina Ibiza collaborated with the Balearic Institute of Marine Studies in the inauguration of the first Underwater Archaeology Centre in the Balearic Islands, based in the Port of La Savina in Formentera. This partnership underlines the marina’s commitment to the protection of underwater cultural heritage, fostering research that will enable the discovery and preservation of local historical treasures.
Through all these initiatives, Marina Ibiza has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility, to sustainability, to environmental conservation, and to the well-being of the community, proving itself to be a company that isn’t just at the helm of the yachting industry, but that also helps improve quality of life and respect for the natural surroundings.
