In the eighth edition of the Mallorca-Ibiza Race staged by the Association for Progress in Management (APD, in its Spanish acronym), thirteen boats up to 19m LOA and around 120 company executives from Ibiza and Palma made the crossing between the islands, finishing the race at Tagomago and ending up at the host port of Marina Ibiza.
Despite the lack of wind during the day, which led to many of the teams starting up their engines before the finish line and on the home stretch to Marina Ibiza, two of the yachts managed to cross the line under sail without exceeding the stipulated time limit. Thanks to her resilience and performance during the race, first prize went to the boat christened Schôolers.
The race fulfilled its main goal, which was to create synergies and business contacts during the crossing and later on dry land at Marina Ibiza, where all the teams were welcomed with a dinner at Sa Calma restaurant, with stunning views of Ibiza Town in the background.
The prizegiving ceremony was held the following day at Marina Ibiza, the Mediterranean’s most exclusive port, after a delicious breakfast on the exclusive terrace of Sa Calma.
The winning crew, together with the rest of the participants and the La Caixa Foundation, which donated €3,000, raised money for the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Ibiza and Formentera.
Marcos Marí, CEO of Marina Ibiza and Vice President of APD Baleares, said that “this eighth edition was a roaring success. The goal ever since the first event has always been to bring together a group of professionals to create synergies outside their work environment, many who are already friends, and enjoy a responsible and fun day”.
Meanwhile, Daniel Marí, Manager of Marina Ibiza, said that “it was a real pleasure to enjoy welcoming this race another time, with many friends who had taken part in other editions and several new faces”.
Cristina Ramon, Head of Events and Communication at the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Ibiza and Formentera, added that “we enormously appreciate all the help we received, from the La Caixa Foundation, the Association for Progress in Management, and Marina Ibiza alike. And we’d like to highlight the human value of the organisers and the participants”.
Marina Ibiza would like to congratulate all the contenders from the eighth edition of the APD Mallorca-Ibiza Race for their effort and enthusiasm, and awaits them with ‘open berths’ for the 2025 edition.
