34th edition of Ibiza & Formentera Sailing Days ends with breakfast at Marina Ibiza

The thirty-fourth edition of the Ibiza & Formentera Sailing Days recently attracted a total of twenty-eight boats from various Spanish ports to Ibiza for this classic regatta. The event, organised by Club Náutico de Ibiza in partnership with Marina Ibiza, consisted of three stages off Ibiza and Formentera.

The first day featured a nearshore route divided into two time trials, the first departing the island of Formentera to starboard with a control at the Cape of Barbaria, and second involving a race to the finishing line in the Bay of Talamanca, a total of forty-one nautical miles. Tomás Gasset’s boat Urbania was the first overall qualifier in the test and also in her category, taking seven hours and thirty-one minutes to complete the race.

The second day was marked by an absence of wind, forcing a delayed departure off to San Antonio. However, the unfavourable wind conditions led the Racing Committee to finish the race early at the Moscarter Lighthouse. The Valencia-based boat Urbania confirmed her desire for an overall win by gaining first place in her RI A class, a whole five points ahead of the second and third place boats, Atlant del Vent and Alitan IV.

On the third and final day, a gentle southwest wind during the first half of the fifteen-mile route and a stronger breeze around Es Vedrá meant that the trial could be completed in just over two hours. Once again, Urbania and her crew romped across the finishing line, confirming their top spot in the RI A class and overall victory in the thirty-fourth Ibiza & Formentera Sailing Days with a total of five points. Kim came second overall with nineteen points, while Alitan IV finished in third place with twenty-one points.

To bring the event to an end, Marina Ibiza laid on a breakfast for the two hundred-plus participants on the terrace of Filin, located on the central plaza of the marina, where harbourmaster Javier Cid handed out the winners’ trophies.
