Seabed cleaning: Circero Project and Bio-Box
Marina Ibiza has rolled out cutting-edge systems to enhance water quality and conserve the marine ecosystem. These include the use of Bio-Box and the development of the CICERO Project, two initiatives that actively contribute to keeping the seabed clean and healthy.
Bio-Box is a pioneering system that uses natural microorganisms to degrade hydrocarbon residues in water. A drip system releases these bacteria into the sea, where they begin to act immediately by breaking down pollutants without generating environmental impact. Marina Ibiza was the first marina in Spain to incorporate this technology, spearheading the application of sustainable solutions for the protection of the marine environment.
Meanwhile, the CICERO Project is designed to enhance water transparency in port settings, favouring the penetration of sunlight and, therefore, the regeneration of the marine ecosystem. This system boosts natural water processes to optimise its quality and facilitate the recovery of filter feeders and marine vegetation. What’s more, its application helps reduce dredging, thereby improving the efficiency and sustainability of port management.
