Marina Ibiza underlines its environmental commitment with an annual plan full of sustainable actions

The marina is enhancing and rolling out new environmental measures throughout 2025 to protect the environment and encourage responsible management

Marina Ibiza underlines its annual commitment with specific actions focused on energy, biodiversity, recycling and awareness of visitors arriving both by sea and by land.

Marina Ibiza has presented its environmental action plan for 2025, an annual programme that underlines its commitment to sustainability through specific actions aimed at protecting the environment and continuously improving its management practices.

The port has renewed its main certifications in terms of quality and environment, such as ISO 9001 and 14001, EMAS, the Blue Flag, the Clean Port seal, and the 5-Star Marina certification, thereby reinforcing its commitment to respectful and efficient operations aligned with international environmental goals.

One key measure planned for this year is the expansion of the solar thermal panel infrastructure for self-sufficiency, with the aim of reducing the energy footprint of the facilities. What’s more, the use of electric vehicles within the port is being encouraged, facilitating sustainable mobility in the marina.

In terms of waste management, new collection points adapted to special waste — such as oils or batteries — have been introduced, in addition the continued improvement of the onboard collection and separation system, with reusable bags that the marina gives each user free of charge to facilitate the recycling process for guests and yachts.

One major development in the 2025 plan has been to turn the marina into the first refuge for the Ibiza wall lizard. This endemic species of the Balearic Islands now has in Marina Ibiza a space adapted for its protection, with specific landscaped areas and stone walls where they can live in their best habitat, with preventive measures and traps installed against their natural predators and an awareness campaign aimed at visitors and users.

The marina is also continuing its partnership with entities specialised in the rescue of marine fauna, especially injured or trapped turtles, channelling their care through a collection point on site that is connected to Palma Aquarium for their subsequent recovery.

Marina Ibiza is also furthering its social and environmental commitment through alliances with organisations such as Be Blue (an initiative of Trasmapi) and TrueWorld, with which it is preparing joint actions for the conservation of the marine ecosystem: seabed clean-ups, educational and social outings on electric boats, water monitoring, and a catalogue of species found in the port area.

What’s more, the use of the Bio-Box system is being maintained, which is a system based on natural microorganisms that degrade polluting waste in the water, while the CICERO Project continues in force, which improves the transparency of the water and favours the regeneration of filtering species and marine vegetation.

In the field of education, training sessions for workers and customers on good environmental practices will be held throughout the year, as well as awareness campaigns on social media and at the marina itself. The goal is to continue building a more conscious and participatory sustainable culture among users and visitors.

In this line, Marina Ibiza will once again hold its Children’s Environmental Regatta, in collaboration with Club Náutico de Ibiza, a day that combines sport, outreach activities and a seabed clean-up, with the active involvement of children in the conservation of their environment.

All these actions will be deployed throughout the year with a practical, realistic and evolutionary approach. As a result, Marina Ibiza further proves its position as a leading sustainability-focused marina in the Mediterranean, advocating a business model that coexists in balance with its natural environment and fosters a more respectful way of experiencing and enjoying the sea.
