Marina Ibiza last weekend hosted the final day of the Balearic Optimist Championship – 7th Fundación Julián Vilás Regatta, one of the key fixtures in the regional grassroots sailing calendar, organised by Club Náutico Ibiza together with the Balearic Sailing Federation.
Over three days, more than fifty young sailors competed in the waters off Playa d’en Bossa in optimal weather conditions, which allowed the full programme of races to go ahead as planned, delivering a high sporting standard and excellent technical organisation.
The prize-giving ceremony, held at Marina Ibiza, was attended by a number of authorities and institutional representatives, including Sara Marí and Marcos Marí, CEO of Marina Ibiza, who were present to share this special occasion with the young sailors.
Jan Palou, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, was crowned Balearic champion after topping the overall standings, rounding off a competition marked by emerging talent and true sporting spirit.
The podium was rounded out by Bruno Nueschen (CN Arenal) in second place and María Lluc Bestard (RCN Palma) in third, who also finished as the top female overall. In the various categories, Miquel Llull (RCN Palma) was the leading Under-13, while Marc Caldentey (CN Arenal) took victory in the Under-11. In the girls’ divisions, Lluc Bestard (Under-16), Aina Sánchez (Under-13) and Leonor Truyols (Under-11) were the standout performers, highlighting the strong competitive level of grassroots sailing in the Balearic Islands.
For Marina Ibiza, the event reflects a passionate commitment to supporting youth sailing on the island and boosting the island’s sailing and water sports community.
“Grassroots sailing is where it all begins. Supporting championships like this means backing the future of sailing and water sports in Ibiza and the Balearics. We believe our facilities should back initiatives that promote values such as effort, discipline and teamwork”, stressed Marcos Marí, CEO of Marina Ibiza.
By supporting the championship, Marina Ibiza continues to play an active role in the development of sailing and water sports and underlines its commitment to helping position Ibiza as a leading centre for youth sailing in the Mediterranean.
