Cruiser racing is back in the waters of Ibiza and Formentera this weekend with the Balearic ORC Cruiser Championship taking place on 14–15 March.
Organised by Club Náutico Ibiza, the regatta is supported by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Balearic Sailing Federation, the Ibiza Island Council and the Ibiza Town Council, along with Marina Ibiza, whose support reflects its commitment to promoting sailing on the island.
The event forms part of the Balearic ORC Cruiser League and will also serve as a qualifier for the Spanish Cruiser Championship, drawing some of the most competitive crews in the Balearics.
The racing programme includes three races: the traditional Round Formentera Race and two windward–leeward courses. A minimum of two races must be completed for the championship to be considered valid.
Boats will race under the ORC rating system, with the fleet split into different classes, allowing a strong field of racing cruisers to compete on equal terms.
The event kicks off on Friday 13 March with the skippers’ briefing and welcome reception. Racing gets underway at 10.00 am on Saturday, with competition resuming at 11.00 am on Sunday.
The championship will wrap up with the prize-giving ceremony at Restaurante Calma in Marina Ibiza at 5.00 pm on Sunday, bringing together crews, organisers and partners.
Beyond racing, the event will also include a series of social gatherings for sailors and their guests, adding to the friendly atmosphere that defines this fixture on the Balearic sailing calendar.
Marina Ibiza underlines the importance of backing initiatives that promote sailing and help position Ibiza as a leading Mediterranean destination for water sports.
