Marina Ibiza in collaboration with the Club Náutico de Ibiza have been staging the Marina Ibiza Children’s Regatta for four years now, with more and more participants racing each year. In the last edition, an interesting environmental approach was introduced to promote an eco-responsible attitude, motivate children to take part in sports and foster a passion for the sea from an early age. Within the competition, the aim was to teach the children to become environmentally conscious while enjoying their water-based hobbies. For example, the children from the Club Náutico, in collaboration with Vellmarí and Trasmapi (as part of its Be Blue/Think Green philosophy) carried out a hugely successful diving activity to clean up the seabed near the marina, collecting almost 100 kilos of waste, mainly plastics. The participants also had the double incentive of getting prizes for each plastic bottle collected and for the person who collected the most waste.
