Marina Ibiza and True World navigating towards a more inclusive and conscious Mediterranean

The all-electric S/Y Galaxie plays host to environmental and social sea trips that connect vulnerable groups with nature, sailing and the sea

Over the last few months, Marina Ibiza has played an active role in a series of sea trips that have captured the emotions of everyone taking part.

In partnership with the Balearic-based organisation True World, which works towards embracing sustainability in everyday life through projects that combine technological innovation and social justice, these sailing adventures aim to democratise climate action and connect different groups with nature, marine biodiversity and the values of environmental respect.

Galaxie, the first all-electric sailboat, has set sail from her berth at Marina Ibiza

with entities on board such as APNEEF (Ibiza and Formentera Association of People with Special Needs), the Council of Ibiza, and various groups from the Balearic Association of Parents of Children with Disabilities, both schooled and non-schooled.

The seafarers for a day have had the chance to cruise under sail, learn about the boat’s electric engine, listen to the sound of the sea with a hydrophone, observe seabirds and coastal fauna with binoculars, identify and paint native species, take part in beach clean-ups, and explore Posidonia meadows. All this with a clear educational and experience-based approach, tailored to the capacities of each group.

“We recently enjoyed a lovely day full of excitement and smiling faces, which gave the children beautiful memories and authentic moments of well-being”, said the principal of the Sant Josep special education school.

The activities, organised by Love the Mediterranean and True World, awoke not just curiosity about the marine environment, but also joy, confidence and connection with the present. Another principal said that “the boys and girls spent days talking about the experience and writing about the seagulls and shearwaters. And they really want to do it all over again”.

The impact of these days at sea has been so positive that new events are already being prepared for the months of May and June with entities such as Sea of Possibilities or Together against Childhood Cancer.

This is all proof that Marina Ibiza and True World are making further headway towards a more accessible, conscious and transformative sea. Because the Mediterranean isn’t just about sailing; it’s also about sharing and caring.
